Who Shouldn't Choose a Low-Carb Lifestyle?

If you ask five doctors this question, you'll get six different answers. The German Nutrition Society generally discourages high-fat and protein diets. We asked a diabetes specialist, who said that pregnant women and people who have trouble metabolizing fat should consult their doctor first.
Dr. Ulrike Kämmerer, a human biologist at the University Hospital of Würzburg who studies the use of ketogenic diets in treating cancer and follows a low-carb diet herself, says that the only restrictions are:
"Congenital problems with metabolism (ketogenesis, ketolysis, fat oxidization, glucogenesis)(...). However, these are extremely rare and mostly only seen in infancy. Otherwise, we haven't encountered any problems so far."
If you have a gluten intolerance, you're likely to have problems with many of our recipes.
